The process your school system uses to develop curriculum
Recommended changes to the math content and the curriculum development process in order to implement the recommendations outlined in the Keys to Math Success report.
Individually assess how your middle school curriculum aligns with recommendations from the Maryland Mathematics Commission in Keys to Math Success. Of the 24 recommendations, focus on the 16 recommendations for which local school systems have responsibility. Use the Math Curriculum Alignment Template to record your information.
Share your alignment with your team by Saturday by posting your completed template (renamed appropriately) to your team's discussion forum.
Review the postings of your team members and discuss for the remainder of the week the prompts below:
Reaction to team member alignment: Where are there commonalities in the alignments? Which curriculum is most closely aligned? Where are there obvious differences in the curricula?
Recommendations for improvement: What changes do you recommend to the school systems’ curricula based on Keys to Math Success?
Overall curriculum development process: Compare and contrast the curriculum development processes used across school systems.
Be sure that by the end of this discussion, contribute your own thinking about how your system’s curriculum can be improved.
